  1. To ensure that we can meet the learning needs of each learner, we offer a variety of learning styles. While we use a text-based introduction to BED, we also provide two introductory videos on BED to make it easier and more comfortable for learners who don’t like to read text.
  2. Given that similar emergencies have occurred before, we are well prepared for this as well. This is because if a sudden event occurs, we will have to move the course to the internet and change it to an online format. The good thing about this is that our hair portion is in text form, so trying to move it online is a very easy task. However, we will be forced to reduce our discussion sessions because online discussions will be tougher than real ones and may be more resistant to many students. Also, online learning will make it more difficult for the lecturer to observe the students. We can’t force every student to turn on the webcam and talk to each other, out of respect for each student. However, we do our best to make our classes as interesting as possible, so that we can motivate and involve everyone. For example, we will add some fun games like Kahoot in the middle of each lesson.
  3. A possible obstacle to the interactive nature of our course is that, like I mentioned before, because it’s an online format, we can’t guarantee the quality of everyone’s learning, and we can’t require everyone to interact online. There are times when the online (Zoom) hand raising feature may be delayed or malfunction so that we, the instructors, cannot guarantee that every student who wants to speak will do so. However, we will at the same time provide a platform for text-only communication, so that students who are not good at communicating through speech can be more adventurous.
  4. We try to keep our learning environment as upbeat as possible, which enhances everyone’s desire to learn. It also ensures that responses and feedback can be given to students as quickly as possible. This is one of the things I care about the most when I am a student. If the instructor doesn’t respond or give feedback for a long period of time, it can be very anxiety provoking for me, I don’t know how well I’m doing or how I need to change things afterward.

  • Our blueprints are more relevant to direct instruction because we focus on the psychological definition and explanation of binge eating disorder. The main way we used to introduce BED was to put the courseware and text on our lecture page. This is similar to direct instruction, which is a step-by-step introduction of the content of the course by the instructor, leading the students to learn the content of the course. Our goal is to rationalize the curriculum so as to minimize the pressure on the students and make it easier for them to learn. We try to give students a clear introduction to the course when designing it by first setting our learning outcome and gradually customizing the specific learning plan according to the learning outcome. So I think we are also teaching through explicit teaching, which is a very important part of direct instruction. And our program is progressive. It starts with a brief introduction of what BED is and how it is defined in the psychological world. We then go on to explain some of the more famous theories of the BED, and finally, we include some discussion activities and interesting interactions. We also have an end-of-class test, and we do our best to ensure that students receive timely responses and feedback. We will also actively participate in the discussion and correct students if they find any misunderstandings.

  • In terms of what we’ve learned so far, the thing we’ve gotten to the most in this course is discussion-based learning. Each week, we will first post our own blog and then have an interactive discussion with other students’ blogs. We need to go under other people’s blogs and comment on them and then we will all do some exploring. What this course does not use is exam-based learning. According to the syllabus of this course, we do not have any test-based learning. This means that all of our marks will come from the content of the assignments. A large portion of these assignments will also be group-style assignments that will also require discussion and the completion of homework tasks. Since I am a psychology major, among my other major course content, it is primarily a course where test-based learning is the primary method. In some of the specialized classes, we would have some discussion topics and questions in class, but when switching to an online course there would be significantly less opportunity for discussion. Measuring learning is also utilized in this course, and our school has made it clear that different scores have different GPA generations, and that there will be fixed letters to represent different score ranges. For example, 50-59.50 is a D with a 1.0 GPA.
