Blog #1

  • In terms of what we’ve learned so far, the thing we’ve gotten to the most in this course is discussion-based learning. Each week, we will first post our own blog and then have an interactive discussion with other students’ blogs. We need to go under other people’s blogs and comment on them and then we will all do some exploring. What this course does not use is exam-based learning. According to the syllabus of this course, we do not have any test-based learning. This means that all of our marks will come from the content of the assignments. A large portion of these assignments will also be group-style assignments that will also require discussion and the completion of homework tasks. Since I am a psychology major, among my other major course content, it is primarily a course where test-based learning is the primary method. In some of the specialized classes, we would have some discussion topics and questions in class, but when switching to an online course there would be significantly less opportunity for discussion. Measuring learning is also utilized in this course, and our school has made it clear that different scores have different GPA generations, and that there will be fixed letters to represent different score ranges. For example, 50-59.50 is a D with a 1.0 GPA.

    Hi, Yoki
I think you’re right. In this course we didn’t have exams the most we learned by discussion. We talked with other learners in order to clarify the topics of the course. I think this is very good. It encourages the students to communicate with each other and develops the learners’ ability to learn independently.
    Good job!
